hi! i'm austen
I am a licensed and nationally certified pediatric occupational therapist in Portland, OR. I do home visits to Portland's west side metro area, and specialize in movement-based learning to enhance the brain's performance for children with various conditions. I received both my bachelor's and master's degrees from University of Southern California. I have extensive experience in assessing and treating children with motor and cognitive skill deficits, sensory processing differences, and general delays. After years of practice in early intervention, public schools, and private clinic settings, I started Mindful Movement Therapies in 2016 to specialize in NeuroMovement® with the Anat Baniel Method®, the most potent intervention I have encountered in all of my training and experience as an occupational therapist. I also have a particular interest in using the Therapeutic Listening® approach to help my clients calm and organize in preparation for functional movement and action.
When I work with a child, I am curious about what he or she is experiencing, and what is missing in that child’s experience. My goal is to help that child find those missing pieces so that he/she can put them together spontaneously. I tailor my sessions to meet a child where he/she is at, not necessarily focusing on what the child is doing, but rather how he/she is doing it and helping them figure out even better ways of doing so. When we establish better organization in movement and praxis, it often results in better organization of the brain overall.
My personal and professional goal is to provide families a client and family centered, naturalized, and flexible therapy option. I help children who experience cerebral palsy, genetic disorders, developmental delays, neurological disorders, and other unspecified motor delays connect with and make sense of their bodies and environment. I support my clients in exploring their current movement, uncovering easier patterns, and achieving more control over their body. I believe that every child should have the opportunity to live up to their potential. If you are ready to explore how your child can benefit from my approach, give me a call or email me. I am excited to hear from you!
