Has anyone else noticed kids are deprived of movement at school? And how short recess is? There are serious implications for this.

Can you imagine life without variation? Everything in black and white, no depth perception, flattened landscape. Aside from it being dull and boring, I don't think any of us would function! For a child who's brain is not yet fully developed, it would be exponentially worse, as they rely on a rich flow of varying information for successful development. Now that school is back in full swing, this has come up frequently. So here is my take. Unfortunately, there is a common misconception that letter reversals indicate dyslexia, or vice versa. However, letter reversals are common for young writers, up through age 8, and may happen for a variety of other reasons that may be overlooked. Some of these include: Do you know a child who is unaware that they have done something hard enough to cause another person pain? Maybe this child uses aggression to give their bodies the inputs it craves, like hitting, biting, pushing, or pulling hair? All give the same type of input, called proprioceptive input, which is registered through the joints and muscles of the body and activate when the child does something hard enough. Some of the web's parenting advice: “Babies need time on their tummies to develop strong neck muscles which will help your baby accomplish all of her physical milestones like sitting, crawling, and walking. Tummy time should start the day Baby comes home from the hospital, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)." I would like to challenge this perspective... Anxiety or ADHD? Whey they sometimes look the same, and how to tell the difference. Here is an interesting read! ADHD is one of the most diagnosed childhood conditions and, yet, there is no objective diagnostic measure for it. Prescription of ADHD medication has increased by 800% in the last two decades, when the symptoms could very well indicate anxiety instead. While reading this, I thought about many of the kids I see who have tried ADHD medication and it made them someone other than themselves. Maybe it was anxiety all along. It is at least something to think about. That's where you come in, parents! Gather your child's support crew and be its glue: ask questions, speak up, and get to the bottom of what is really going on.
